Oldsmobile, yesterday

Oldsmobile could have been here today as a Rolls-Royce competitor or as Cadillac’s equivalent to Mercedes’ Maybach.

Kinja'd!!!

Oldsmobile’s competition, if Oldsmobile was alive, yesterday.

Well, there you go.

Wait Oldsmobile would be below Cadillac so how would it be a RR or Maybach competitor?

Because the GM equivalent of Mercury obviously could’ve competed with the most opulent brands in the world if they just had the right product…

If someone who had influence at Oldsmobile in the 1910s had said so.

Respectfully, I’m not seeing it.

Olds=Lexus.

The only problem was that Buick=Lexus....

Caddy should be upmarket however. Drop the ATS and use that platform for the regal.

Or... maybe if Buick was the Merc fighter and Olds was Maybach?

Ah, crass, I just want an American Maybach.

Buick was always over olds. That wouldn't make any sense.

I’m failing to see the reasoning behind this thought. Oldsmobile had never been a premium brand, not even in the beginning. On the other hand Cadillac used to be much more prestigious than the brand is today.

Yeah, the only thing Oldsmobile did first was turbocharging. Aside from that, nothing really stood out.

Oldsmobile did a SHITLOAD of stuff first. Including, but not limited to, automatic transmission, chrome, airbags, and touch screen controls.

I intentionally left out astro-glide, or whatever their auto transmissions were called. Didn’t know about airbags and touch screens, though.

How? Oldsmobile was always a medium-priced brand, above Pontiac, but below Buick. Rolls-Royce and Maybach were always ultra-premium brands positioned at least one full tier above Cadillac, which is to say, at least two tiers above Oldsmobile.

GM has never really had an entire marque in the Rolls-Royce/Maybach/Bentley segment, although some higher-end Cadillacs, like the V16 and Eldorado Brougham, did reach up into that price and prestige range.
